“The world is but a canvas for our imagination.” -Henry David Thoreau
Essential Questions: 1. How can information be shared artistically? 2. What problem solving skills are employed in making works of art? 4. How does beauty influence the quality of life? 5. How and why is art used as a vehicle for communication?
Enduring Understanding: * How do we make the viewer wonder, "how?" and why is it vital to create that wonder in life?
Learning Objectives: Students will-
Strengthen intuitive painting processes
Apply new vocabulary to their art
Comprehend layering techniques
Work with two acrylic mediums
Combine photography with traditional art techniques
Explore the concept of texture
Terms: Acrylic: of synthetic resin and fibers-made from polymer of acrylic acid.
Composition: the act of combining parts or elements to form a whole.
Shape: an area that is contained within an implied line, or is seen and identified because of color or value changes.Shapes have 2 dimensions: length and width, and can be geometric or free form. Design is basically the planned arrangement of shapes in a work of art.
Pattern:a regular arrangement of alternated or repeated elements or motifs.
Constraints: - original photography - canvas - paintbrushes - acrylic medium - acrylic paint - Xerox prints - foam brushes
Tips from the teacher:
- let layers dry between application - must haves: pattern and shape - play with washes - Xerox must be high contrast (plus value) - there must be a shape in composition that can become a pattern - make the viewer wonder ‘how’ you created this
